I’m not a big fan of beauty trends. They seem to pass and go quicker than the seasons. However, there is one skin care method that is having a current surge in popularity that I wholeheartedly believe everyone can benefit from. That being, cleansing oils. Swapping your evening cleanser for a cleansing oil can effectively remove everyday pollution, make-up and excess sebum, as well as improve your skin care woes. It can also be the perfect opportunity to let go of any stress from the day. However, not all cleansing oils are created equal, and some can do more harm than good, by disrupting the delicate moisture and pH balance of your skin, resulting in redness, irritation, dehydration and premature ageing of the skin.
It’s imperative to choose a product that contains 100% plant based ingredients. Read the full ingredient list. If the cleansing oil contains mineral oil place it back on the shelf. This petroleum by-product interferes with your skin’s natural function, clogging pores, exacerbating acne, and is highly likely to be contaminated with hormone disruptors and carcinogens that are linked to breast cancer and more. Instead, choose a cleansing oil that contains organic ingredients such as jojoba oil.
Anyone, irrespective of your age or skin condition. I know it might sound a little strange at first to use a cleansing oil if you have oily skin. But the fact is, that a good quality organic plant-based cleansing oil can dramatically improve oily skin conditions and even help to clear up acne. Why? If you strip all oil from your skin with a harsh cleanser that gives that “squeaky clean” feeling then your body naturally produces more oil to help bring the skin back to balance. But if you nourish your skin with oils such as jojoba and avocado oil then the body doesn’t over-produce oil. Instead you’re left with clean, clear, hydrated skin that feels soft and nourished.
To remove mascara and eye makeup, dampen an organic cotton wool pad with warm water. Squeeze out excess water, and apply a few drops of the cleansing oil to the pad. Gentle press on eyes.
To cleanse your entire face, massage cleansing oil directly to dry skin in circular motions. Dampen an organic muslin cloth in a basin of warm water. Squeeze out excess water and place over your face as a warm compress for a few seconds. Rinse cloth in warm water and repeat the compress steps 3 times.
For effective results, cleanse twice. The first application removes dirt, grime, and make-up, whilst the second application helps to nourish the skin.
