These days it seems we’ve become a society addicted to fast change. The next best thing. Attention spans are short and boredom is high, and we want everything new. Even more so, we want results NOW.
And while this may serve us in some areas of our lives, many of us have adopted this attitude towards skincare. After all, every day there’s a new product, a new brand, promising something new, the next ‘revolutionary breakthrough’. The shiny new thing. And most of us are addicted to shiny new things, are we not? And so, our wallets come out and before we know it we have a bathroom shelf full of half used products, mixed and matched from different brands. And then next month, there’s a new scrub, serum or peel, and it promises to transform our complexion, and we absolutely MUST have it. And so it goes. We begin to accumulate a very expensively curated and confusing regime.
But is this the best way to go, for our skin (and our wallets)?
While yes, we are probably hurting our wallets, we are also likely to be hurting our skin too.
A bit of ‘this’ product from one brand and a bit of ‘that’ from another could set us up for further damage, as we are combining ingredients that aren’t necessarily ideal when mixed together. Harsh ingredients, particularly acids and retinols, don’t always agree. And if we don’t know what ingredients we are combining (and let’s be honest – most of us don’t), we develop irritation. We strip our skin dry, we over-moisturise, we experiment with essential oils in far too high concentrations and our skin becomes inflamed. Irritated. Angry. And sensitive. We look in the mirror and wonder what we can do to improve the situation and the vicious cycle continues.
Using a complete skincare range that is formulated to work synergistically with the natural physiology of our skin and with each other, is the fastest way to long-term happy, healthy and beautiful skin. When ingredients complement and build upon each other, as skincare ranges are created to do, there is little risk of adverse reactions and inflammations.
Great care is taken to ensure that ingredients in each product do not interfere with each other, but rather, to work together through layering on top of one another. And when ingredients work together, they support our skin with hydration and smooth, healthy, plump, radiant skin.
Your skin will look, and feel, better when you choose a skin care sequence from the one brand.
My personal preference is to rotate my skin care ritual with the various brands that we stock. This is something that I have enjoyed doing for over 12 years. Why? Because the visible difference in my complexion is all the proof that I need. My skin looks and feels healthy, and I don’t suffer the usual and common skin concerns. When I have “on occasion” cocktailed with various brands at the one time (to test out this theory) my skin suffers. It’s as simple and evident as that.
This is also the reason why I only stock a select few brands at Be Genki. The range MUST deliver visible results, and if I’m not happy spending my money on it, then I certainly wouldn’t and couldn’t expect you to either. So, if you’re ‘umming’ and ‘ahhhing’ about which brand to choose, my top tip is to encourage you to think about the concern that you’re wanting to address. Is it Adult Acne? Fine Lines? Pigmentation? Dry Skin? Oily Skin? Teenage Acne? Super Sensitive Skin? No matter what your concern, be assured, there is never a “wrong” choice with the brands we stock.
